A ketogenic (keto) diet has become very popular in recent years as a high-fat, low-carb diet with a wide range of medical and physical benefits. There are several different types of keto diets, but the basic concept is that by reducing your carbohydrate intake and replacing it with fat or protein, your body will burn the latter for energy and leave you feeling full for longer periods of time. Basically, take the classic food pyramid and flip it upside down (but continue to avoid any foods high in sugar).

Whether you’d like to go all out keto or gently incorporate it into your regular diet, please consult a doctor and do your own personal research to determine if the keto diet is right for you.
If you’re not sure what foods are good to eat on a keto diet, we’ve listed some great options below!
Add them to your salad, or munch on them directly out of the bowl. Olives are a great source of healthy fats and slow down your digestion, leaving you feeling full for a longer amount of time.
Dark chocolate is a keto diet approved snack and/or dessert, as it is low in carbs and high in antioxidants. Keep your dark chocolate sugar free, and be sure the cocoa content is above 70% for best results.
While you should avoid vegetables like potatoes or beets, cauliflower is a great low-carb choice of veggie for the keto diet. Use it to make cauliflower rice, or that "one Chinese cauliflower dish" that everyone loves.
If you aren't a fan of stir-frying with coconut oil, butter is a highly recommended condiment for the keto diet. Actually, just put butter on everything and you can't go wrong!
While you might not be getting much sunshine if you live in the big city, you can still get the perfect sun kissed tan without any risk of sun damage (wrinkles, age spots or much worse). Here’s how to do it!
Step 1: Exfoliate your face and body
Make sure that you have removed all of your dead skin skills with some exfoliating glove to make sure the tan color penetrates your skin. For the delicate areas around the throat and face, use a gently exfoliating scream. If you do not have one, you can easily make your own at home. All you need is coconut oil and sugar! Mix them together and gently rub them into your skin in a circular motion.
Step 2: Hydrate your skin
Hydration is the most important step to getting the perfect tan. We all have areas of our body that are particularly dry. The drier areas of the body will absorb the tanning lotion more, which can result in a spotty tan. This can easily be avoided by hydrating your skin first. Do not forget to let the lotion dry well before you apply anything else to the skin.
Step 3: Time for tan!
Start applying the tanning lotion from bottom to top, starting with your lower body and working your way up to your neck and face. Take your time and be careful not to miss any part of your skin. After you're done, don't put any light colored clothing on and let it dry for at least 12 hours, or it may stain your clothing! You can also do it right before bed and sleep with it overnight.
Step 4: Missed a spot?
After the lotion has dried, you can see if you missed any spots and do some easy fill-ins. If the tan is too dark, just take a shower to lighten it.
Step 5: Keep your tan!
To make sure that your tan does not fade away too quickly, repeat the steps listed above. Be sure to keep your skin hydrated, and try making this a part of your daily morning routine to easily maintain the nice glow all summer long.

Want to know the secret to having perfect brows? Johanna Tonentschuk is a Swedish make-up artist based in Stockholm that has been freelancing, working full time and teaching her own make-up classes throughout Sweden since graduating. Read on for her top tips and tricks, and find out what it's like to work in the beauty industry!
Name: Johanna Tonentschuk
Birthday: June 27th
Birthplace: Oskarshamn, Sweden
Interests: Travel, music and food
Favorite quote: "Don't let anyone with bad eyebrows tell you anything about life."
Who are you?
My name is Johanna Tonentschuk, and this summer I will turn 25 years old. I grew up in a small city in south Sweden called Oskarshamn. I moved to Sweden's capital Stockholm approximately five and a half years ago to work as a professional make-up artist.
When and how did you get into the beauty industy?
I have always liked everything beauty related. My mother works as a hairdresser, so I think some of my interest stems from there. When I started university it was obvious to me that I wanted to focus on programs related to make-up. After I graduated I moved to Stockholm and started to freelance. The freelance work included everything from shows, shoots, recordings and after a while I also worked as a freelancer for the makeup-brand PÜR. Four years ago I got a full-time job for PÜR and quit freelancing.
My work at PÜR involves using the brand to educate others. I run different kinds of make-up related courses and events all around in Sweden. We work closely with a hair-brand called Davines. I work as the lead make-up artist at their hair shows.
Which element of your job do you enjoy most?
The thing I like the most about my job is that I can be creative every day. I also appreciate all of the different type of people I get the chance to meet. Every person has their own skin type and face shape, which gives me new experiences and helps me grow as a make-up artist.

What are some of the latest projects you have been working on?
My latest project was a show with the hair brand Davines. During this event I worked with the hairdressers and prepared everything for the show. We had many meetings about how the clothes, hair and make-up should be and which style we wanted to express. I prepared mood boards for the different teams that we would have. At this show we focused on the colors black, white and red.
Another one of my recent projects involves teaching a course on how to do bridal make-up. This is a course I do every year, and it is really popular. The trends change over the years, which means that I have to take the time to prepare a new course and plan out the make-up techniques I will be teaching. I also have to find models for the students to practice on.
What are your 3 beauty do’s and don’ts?
- Always use sun protection! It doesn’t mater if you're lying on the beach, or taking a trip in the city. If you don't use it, it's easier for you to get dark spots on your skin and age more quickly. Many people believe that they won't get tan if they use sun protection, but you actually get a nicer and healthier tan. I always make sure to use a foundation with SPF so I don't have to think about using one extra product.
- Never go to sleep with your make-up on! Always be careful to wash off all of your make-up before bedtime. What happens if you skip this step? Your pores may become clogged, which may lead to problems with acne and dry skin.
- Do you have tired eyes? Everyone wakes up with red and tired eyes sometimes. To make your eyes look alert you can use a light (preferably skin toned) eyeliner pen to line your waterline. This will make your eyes look bigger and more alert.
What has inspired you the most throughout your career?
I've been inspired by so much. I have been inspired by many people, but the thing that has inspired me the most is how we can use make-up to help people feel more beautiful and confident.
What is the biggest challenge a make-up artist has to face?
The biggest challenge is understanding the customer's preferences so they are satisfied. Sometimes they don’t even know what they want! So the biggest challenge is figuring this out together with the customer.
Thank you so much for your time!
Sunscreen comes with different SPF protection. So which one should you choose? The lower the SPF, the less time you can spend in the sun without getting burned. Don’t forget to apply 15-30 minutes before going outside, and reapply every two hours.
Applying body sunscreen to the may clog pores and cause your skin to break out. The face is one of the most exposed parts of the body, so be sure to take extra care of it with a separate face lotion.
Don’t forget to protect your lips! These lip balms have SPF and help prevent them from becoming blistered or chapped.
After Sun Care
The skin needs a little extra moisture after a day in the sun, regardless of you burned or not. If you were lucky and didn't get sunburned, you should still use a soothing and moisturizing lotion. And if you did get burned, aloe vera is great for cooling down the skin and repairing any damage caused by the sun.
