Who are you?

My name is Hannah Bui and I'm from Vietnam. I came to Shanghai to complete my undergraduate and masters degree in fashion design, and now I am a freelance fashion stylist.

How did you begin your career?

Four years ago, I began to enter the industry. In the beginning, I worked as an assistant to a senior Taiwanese stylist. I gained a lot of professional knowledge through working with her. As I had already begun working while studying, it wasn't long before I was able to slowly transform into working completely independently.

How would you describe your style? What are some types of clothing you have in your closet now?

I like comfortable clothes. I don't set a style for myself. I dress according to my mood and occasions. In my wardrobe, there are all kind of styles: sporty, retro, and some trendy fashion elements.

What are some of the latest projects you have been working on?

I think my job is to bring life into every piece of clothing, create a story for it, and also make it become a work of art. Every one of my projects has different shades and different stories.

One of my most favorite projects was working on Dreammingless fashion magazine. It's a true journey through fashion and art.

I have also worked with some clothing brands and helped them improve their brand image. Some of them might sound really familiar to you, like Hotwind, Adidas, Fairwhale, MJstyle, etc...

Another type of project I enjoy very much is filming advertisements and creating the stories of brand characters. I’ve had a chance to work with some famous brands such as Oppo, Coca Cola, Volkswagen, Tianmao Mall and Yakult.

Becoming a stylist has been my dream since I was a little kid, and I feel so blessed that I can live in that dream everyday. I put all of my heart and soul into every project I work on. I like to aim for perfection, so I always try my best to create the greatest result possible on every outfit and design.

Do you have any advice for someone that is building their wardrobe or wants to develop their own personal style?

I think the first thing is to be yourself, and know what you like. The best outfit should bring you comfort and confidence when you wear it.

Second is to understand the occasion, so that you can adjust your style for any situation.

Third is to understand your own body. Exaggerate your assets and cleverly cover up any shortcomings with your clothing style.

Fourth is dare to try. Don't turn your clothes into your troubles. Be creative! There is no right or wrong, and there is no style you can't wear. Maybe you can even discover a whole new side to yourself just by trying different styles of clothing.

Thank you so much for your time!

The Comeback Of Big, “Ugly” Sneakers

Ovni sneakers (if you’re French), Grandpa or Dad shoes (if you’re American), or just “those big, ugly sneakers” if you’re from elsewhere in the world have made a huge comeback this past year. The alien-like sneakers you might have scoffed at several years ago are now found on the runways of Balenciaga with their Triple S model and Louis Vuitton with their LV Archelights. Nike is getting in on the action too with the comeback of their Air Max 97s (original pictured below).

While the sneakers may look like they from another planet, they aren’t without any charm. In addition to their futuristic and modern design, these shoes are just plain comfortable to wear. So it’s no surprise that people have embraced the trend that contrasts so starkly to the simple and classic tennis shoe trend we’ve been seeing lately.

If you’re into the fashion scene, you might already own a pair of these shoes. But they aren’t exactly easy to style, due to their bulky and oversized appearance.

We’ve made it easy for you and found some nice looks to be inspired by. Pair these shoes with some athletic socks, straight pants, a shirt or even a pair of high-waisted “mom jeans” and you’re good to go!

SPORTY CHIC

Models Kendall Jenner and Bella Hadid have fallen for the shoes and mixed them with a trench coat and classic blazer.

CASUAL LOOK WITH SHORTS

Fashion bloggers Xenia Adonts and Aimee Song paired the shoes with shorts for a casual daily look.

CASUAL LOOK WITH PANTS

Brazilian model Thassia Naves and fashion blogger Claire Marnette adopted them for a casual yet put together look that you can never go wrong with.

CASUAL CHIC

Pair these sneakers with your semi-formal wear for a more casual, yet classy look. Seen on fashion blogger Laetitia Nimah Kutob.

Are you convinced? Here are some of the best shoes we’ve found, from the original styles to some significantly cheaper alternative options.

Guest blogger Concetta Borli is always talking about shoes and doesn’t have any room in her closet to store all of them! She can’t skip out on this new shoe trend as she can definitely use another 5cm added to her height.
