Going "all-natural" has been making waves in the beauty and skincare world, and for good reason! There's a growing demand for consumers to know what exactly is in their favourite products, especially as many of them contain artificial ingredients, preservatives, and even toxins that aren't so great for your skin. If you've been finding it tricky to find organic products online, why not introduce some natural ingredients into your skincare routine? They're easier to find and extremely versatile, and sometimes going back to basics is exactly what you need. Here are some of our faves.
Matcha

Matcha is more than just a yummy (and healthy) flavor for your drinks and ice cream! It's a powerful anti-aging ingredient that also rejuvenates your skin cells. Try mixing with rose water or honey for an easy DIY face mask!

Raw Honey

Raw honey can be one of the most soothing things to introduce to your skin, and can be incorporated into your routine in a number of ways! Use it as a soft facial cleanser (after removing your makeup), mix it with some other natural ingredients to make your own hair or face mask, or massage it into your face as a gentle exfoliant. The possibilities are endless.

Tea Tree Oil

If you have acne-prone skin and those store-bought artificial products haven't been doing the trick, try this out! Its anti-inflammatory properties makes it a popular ingredient in cleansers and can greatly reduce itchiness and irritation. Make sure to dilute tea tree oil by mixing it with another natural oil like carrier oil, or your favorite moisturizer or toner.

Shea Butter

If you have dry skin, raw shea butter is a great fat that can act as a great remedy, softening and smoothing the skin. You can use it as a natural moisturizer or lip balm, or mixed into your go-to lotion.

Aloe Vera

It's no wonder why aloe vera is a common ingredient in over-the-counter skincare products. In its purer forms, aloe vera works as an amazing antioxidant and anti-inflammatory agent. Mix it with honey for a face mask, or apply to irritated areas like bug bites or acne for relief.

Coconut Oil

Besides being a healthy fat that is great to cook with, coconut oil has some great moisturizing properties for your skin and hair. While it is too thick to act as an effective oil on its own, it works great when applied on top of moisturizer or as an ingredient in your all-natural cleanser.

Ginseng

Yep, not only is ginseng one of the best health drinks out there but it can do great things for your skin. Ginseng extract is beneficial for all skin types, but it's especially good as an anti-aging product. Add it to your next DIY face mask!

Apple Cider Vinegar

You've heard of throwing it onto your salads, now get ready to put it on your skin! Apple cider vinegar can help out with clearing your skin when implemented into your routine. Add this to your facial cleansers and toners, or take a bath in a diluted version to soothe sunburned skin.

Say no to oily skin, sunburns, enlarged pores and acne this summer with these 5 products you shouldn't skip on your daily skincare routine!

Sunscreen

You should apply sunscreen all year round, but in the summer the days are longer, the sun is stronger, and people just can't resist spending more time outdoors, so sunscreen become more important than ever. Here are some small tips for choosing the best sunscreen for the summer:

  • Choose a sunscreen with “broad-spectrum” protection.
  • Choose a sunscreen with a sun protection factor (SPF) of at least 30.
  • Reapply sunscreen at least every 2 hours and even more often if you are swimming or sweating.

Check out our top sunscreens for face, body, lips and after sun care here!

Face wash with AHA/BHA

Your skin will become oily and sweaty in the summer, creating acne-prone environment. Choose a exfoliating face wash that has AHA or BHA, but remember to use it only 3 times a week at most as the acidic properties may dry out your skin.

Clay Mask

Use a clay mask once a week to detoxify your skin in the summer. Clay masks also help unclog and shrink pores!

Aloe Vera Gel

Aloe vera is anti-inflammatory and moisturizing. It also contains antioxidants that protect your skin from damage. Apply aloe gel to your face and body after a long day outside, and it will feel amazing.

Hydrating Mist

Whether your skin is too dry, too dull, or just in need of a little pick-me-up, a few spritzes of a hydrating facial mist can transform your skin in seconds. Always keep one bottle in your bag when you go out on a sunny summer day.

Ready To Get Tan?

While you might not be getting much sunshine if you live in the big city, you can still get the perfect sun kissed tan without any risk of sun damage (wrinkles, age spots or much worse). Here’s how to do it!

Step 1: Exfoliate your face and body

Make sure that you have removed all of your dead skin skills with some exfoliating glove to make sure the tan color penetrates your skin. For the delicate areas around the throat and face, use a gently exfoliating scream. If you do not have one, you can easily make your own at home. All you need is coconut oil and sugar! Mix them together and gently rub them into your skin in a circular motion.

Step 2: Hydrate your skin

Hydration is the most important step to getting the perfect tan. We all have areas of our body that are particularly dry. The drier areas of the body will absorb the tanning lotion more, which can result in a spotty tan. This can easily be avoided by hydrating your skin first. Do not forget to let the lotion dry well before you apply anything else to the skin.

Step 3: Time for tan!

Start applying the tanning lotion from bottom to top, starting with your lower body and working your way up to your neck and face. Take your time and be careful not to miss any part of your skin. After you're done, don't put any light colored clothing on and let it dry for at least 12 hours, or it may stain your clothing! You can also do it right before bed and sleep with it overnight.

Step 4: Missed a spot?

After the lotion has dried, you can see if you missed any spots and do some easy fill-ins. If the tan is too dark, just take a shower to lighten it.

Step 5: Keep your tan!

To make sure that your tan does not fade away too quickly, repeat the steps listed above. Be sure to keep your skin hydrated, and try making this a part of your daily morning routine to easily maintain the nice glow all summer long.

Rejuvenate Your Skin With 3 Easy Steps!

The skin is our biggest organ, and it's constantly producing new skin cells. At the end of the skin cell life cycle, dead skin cells can remain on our skin, clogging pores and making it appear lifeless. Not so nice, huh? Here is a 3-step guide on how to exfoliate and get smooth, radiant skin. Repeat this process 2-3 times a week for the best results!

1. Take A Hot Bath Or Shower With Body Wash

Hot water will help open up your pores, and prepares the skin for cleansing. Use a good body wash to soften the skin.

2. Remove Dead Skin Cells

Once the skin has softened, its time to scrub! There are many ways to exfoliate your skin; shower gloves, brushes, sponges and body scrubs. Choose the one you prefer. Scrub your entire body in small circular motions. Pay extra attention to your heels, elbows and knees, which are the driest parts of our skin.

3. Apply Moisturizer

After getting out of the shower, it’s time to moisturize the skin. It’s important to hydrate after scrubbing, or else it can feel dry and irritated.

Is Your Skin Ready For Winter?

Winter is here, and our skin is taking a hit! Here's how to keep your skin looking its best when it's cold and windy outside.

1. More cream, please

When temperatures drop, the air is drier and so is your skin. The contrast between cold/moist air outside and dry/warm air inside can really dry out your skin. Don't skimp on the moisturizing; it's better to shine a little than to allow your skin to get too dry.

2. Don't hesitate to use body oil

Oil is the perfect ally in winter: it leaves a thin protective film that retains moisture. You can add a few drops of oil to your day cream to combine the positive effects of both and hydrate your skin intensively. Before sleeping, you can put pure oil on your skin to nourish it deeply during the night.

3. Use moisturizing masks

Applying a nourishing, softening and moisturizing mask once a week can help your skin stay strong against the relentless cold weather.

4. Exfoliate your skin

Exfoliating renews your skin and restores its freshness. But be careful, exfoliate less than you would normally in order to maintain a barrier between your skin and the cold air.

5. Change to a super gentle cleanser

As your skin is fragile, some cleanser could be an extra-aggression. Change to a super gentle cleanser such as oil or milk-based.

6. Give your lips some TLC

What's worse than having chapped and cracked lips?

6. Give your hands some extra protection

Your hands get a lot of use and exposure to cold air every day. Take care of them by massaging your hands and nails regularly with a rich hand cream. It's going to negate the risk of your hands being dry, painful and chapped. It's like wearing an extra pair of gloves in the winter cold!

The Ultimate Asian Skincare Routine

What's the secret behind Asian women's seemingly ageless skin? It involves following a daily skincare routine religiously, going far beyond smearing a make-up removing wipe on your face before going to bed.

We investigated what women in China, Japan and Korea do to take care of their skin, reading reviews and going by personal recommendations to determine what products work best.

Make-Up Removal & Cleansing

Start off with a light make-up remover, rubbing it gently with a sweeping motion to avoid irritating the eyes. If you want a more deep clean for tougher makeup, opt for a oil cleanser. Follow up with a water-based cleanser to remove any excess oil and other impurities.

Exfoliation

Gently massage an exfoliating scrub into your skin 2-3 times a week to remove dead skin cells from the surface of the skin, revealing smooth and silky skin underneath. Avoid sensitive areas around the eyes and mouth.

Toner, Essense & Serum

Here's where we get into the real heart of an Asian skincare routine, and what distinguishes it from any Western alternatives. Toner helps to re-hydrate and balance out the skin after a deep cleansing/exfoliation that can cleanse the skin of natural oils. Essences and serums are more of a concentrated treatment that aid in skin repair and targeting problem areas, like large pores, wrinkles or acne. Use them liberally!

Moisturizer & Eye Cream

No matter what type of skin you have, hydration is key. A good moisturizing lotion protects and improves your skin, while helping to prevent wrinkles and rough skin patches. Top it all off with a hydrating eye cream on the delicate skin around the eyes that needs extra protection. And as always, drink plenty of water!

Other Goodies

Rule #1 of all skincare regimes is use SPF daily! If you don't have the time to really pamper your skin before heading out the door in the morning, this is the only step you really can't skip. Using a moisturizer or make-up product with SPF can prevent long-term damage to your skin as a result of sun exposure. Even if the sun isn't shining, be sure to use it.

And last but not least, treat yourself to an intensely moisturizing sheet mask as often as you'd like. Just be sure to warn someone before they see you, or you might really give them a scare!
